Excellent!

An excellent book for anyone who wants to know how to build a great house. This book will give you the insights in a very simply way that allows anyone to understand the process of construction. If you want to understand what the engineer will be telling you or describing and even be aware of what they are doing right and wrong, this is the book you want to get. It is full of pictures and great descriptions that is easy to understand and comprehend even with no prior background in the field. Highly recommended!

Informative, Invaluable, Inexpensive

Considering that I was able to buy this eBook on one of Amazon's fantastic Kindle Daily Deals (less than $3.00), my review could only be better if the edition was newer than 5 years old. Am I a stickler? No, because building codes typically change every 5 or so years, so you'll have to be sure you check local building codes in addition to the content of the book. Hence, the 4 star rating. However, that said, the book itself is very well written, extremely informative, and easy to turn the pages. Be sure to use your Kindle's illustration-zooming feature, as the pictures are just as informative as the writing, itself. In just 2 days, I've learned far more than I could effectively glean from Internet research, and I'll highly recommend this for any do-it-yourself handyman or for anyone hiring a contractor to build your dream home. This book will put you in a position to audit your contractor's work intelligently and in a manner that will make him/her think twice about trying to snow you, about anything! If you can pick this up for what you consider a bargain price, I fully recommend that you do without hesitation.

For a book this expensive, it should have better illustrations. It is 85 % black and white and so poorly 2-dimensional that you cannot properly understand what they are illustrating. Your best best it to get the Do It Yourself Home Improvement: Step by Step Guide to Home Improvement by Julian Cassell, Peter Parham and Theresa Coleman(Oct 16, 2006).
