About the Author
Graham Ison was in the regular army before joining the Metropolitan Police. During his career in Scotland Yard’s Special Branch, he was involved in several famous espionage cases and spent four years at 10 Downing Street as protection officer to the prime minister. He later guarded crowned heads and US presidents during their visits to Britain, and served as second-in-command of the Diplomatic Protection Group. He is an honorary agent of the US Army Criminal Investigation Command.

Fun British Police Procedural

If you enjoy British police procedurals, you're always looking for more. There's never enough. I stumbled upon this series and am glad I did. Harry Brock and Dave Poole work for Scotland Yard on the Murder Investigation Team. When the body, fedora and walking stick of a toff, raffish English actor, Lancelot Foley, is found in an excavation site in Chelsea, there is no shortage of suspects.
Ex-wife, mistresses, fellow actors, and perhaps even poker party players whom he cheated all vie for the detectives' attention. Brock & Poole are effective at their work and follow the leads all over London and even to Paris. There's a sly humor in the narration of their activities, and quintessential British expressions such as "podgy" or a description of the dead man's solicitor as a "plum-in-the-mouth" solicitor.
This is a fairly plot-driven mystery novel with some fun twists. It brings in contemporary issues, so you feel you are in England, thinking along with the detectives. There are plenty of colorful characters. I particularly enjoyed the 80-something Dixey twin sisters, one of whom accused her twin of dressing like a tart.
Would enjoy reading more books in the series. It was a light, fun and satisfying read.
