If you are already a fan, you will probably enjoy this.
By J. Lesley
This novel simply was not a good match for the style of writing and plot that I enjoy reading. That doesn't mean it won't be good for you. I've never read any other books written by Veronica Heley and, therefore, nothing in the Bea Abbot series of novels. It was like reading the script of episode eleven in a thirteen week series of a soap opera. Everything had a little bit of a frantic feel to it, as if there was so much to be covered it had to be done quickly or something would be left out. There were many characters returning from previous novels with not much effort made to clarify why they mattered to me as a reader. I honestly kept waiting to be told that Bea is a clairvoyant because she seemed to simply divine what was going on in a situation and proceed to work to fix it. At the end all of the loose ends were tied up by the author taking each of the many characters individually and telling me (not showing me) what happened to each person and then moving on to do the same with the next person. Not very personal and not very satisfying for me.
As I say, not the style of writing I enjoy and every book isn't for every reader. I'm sure fans of this series will enjoy this one as much as they have enjoyed the previous books.
I received an ARC of this novel through NetGalley.

Loved Bea!

False Impression: A Bea Abbot British Murder Mystery
By
Veronica Heley
What it's all about...
Bea...runs a domestic service company from her home but is involved in so many other things!
Her "friend" Leon needs her help. She is helping Dilys...a sort of lost soul related to Leon, and Orlando...another lost soul/semi closeted homosexual who is supposed to be marrying Dilys. She meets with her ex husband and even meets regularly with DI Durrell...friendships only and seems to spend tons of time feeding her friends...tea and toast or biscuits as needed...eggy breakfasts and dinners, too! Bea also seems to be housing tons of people. Her house is home to her business, people she befriends and her beautiful chubby kitty...Winston. Then...sort of all of a sudden a man is found dead in a swimming pool parking lot and a woman is found dead there, too. Bea's house is bugged, people are kidnapped or held hostage or trapped in buildings and Leon's business is threatened. He can't get to his elderly brother and things turn nasty! Gas leaks, disappearances, more bugs and very bad people! This book was so good!
This is my first experience with Bea Abbot and I was totally thoroughly charmed by her.
Why I wanted to read it...
I love cozy mysteries and this one was both cozy, fast paced and addictive!
What made me truly enjoy this book...
I actually loved reading all about Bea. Her thoroughness, the way she feeds everyone and her relative calmness amidst tons of crazy riled up characters was actually quite fun! I loved Watson!
Why you should read it, too...
If you love cozy English mysteries filled with quaint and quirky characters...I think you will love this series. It was really surprising to me and I want to read more Bea books. I did some research about the author and she is a sweet looking little white haired lady who says she has lots more stories in her! Hurray!
Thank you NetGalley and Amazon for this book!

A GOOD RELAXING READ.
By Diana M. Hockley
Bea Abbott and Ellie Quick - whose stories I love reading - have a lot in common - even Bea has a recalcitrant adult too. This is one of the better "cozies" around and set in the UK a country I love. I confess I got this book at our local library - just as well because the kindle version is pretty pricey.
It was a little hard to fill out the survey at the beginning of this review, particularly the mood. I picked "hopeful" because it seemed the best to describe the plot. Okay, so there were things happening that were dark but because this genre - for want of a better word - is "cozy" they don't seem half as bad compared to a really murky murder mystery.
Winston was the sanest, apart from Bea, who seems to have an endless supply of biscuits, coffee and tea to feed everyone who arrives at her door. The house is like the Tardis, a room available whenever anyone needs one!
I liked all the characters, although a couple were a little stereotyped, realised what was happening to Briscoe about halfway through, but felt the ending could have been wrapped up with less telling rather than showing. However, that is a small point and hardly worth bothering about. There are splashes of humour throughout which I enjoyed.
A good, easy read.
