About the Author
Andrew Griffiths is a serial entrepreneur with a passion for helping people to achieve both their business and personal dreams and goals. He is a dynamic keynote presenter, specialist consultant and internationally renowned author.
As an orphan growing up in Western Australia, Andrew survived neglect, abuse and tragedy. In spite of this childhood filled with so many negatives, he grew into a positive, funny and endlessly enthusiastic man. Andrew has taken what life has thrown at him and grown from it rather than letting it overwhelm him.
He started his first business at the age of seven when he sold newspapers in the red light district of Perth. Since then he has gone on to sell encyclopedias door-to-door, travelled the world as an international sales manager for a large Japanese shipping company, worked in the Great Sandy Desert for a gold exploration company, been a publisher, had his own scuba school and retail store, and worked as a commercial diver throughout Australia and Papua New Guinea. He has founded and run two boutique marketing and corporate communication firms in Australia. The experiences and observations gained from working with hundreds of clients became the major catalyst in writing his series of business building books, 101 Ways, which have been sold in 50 countries and translated into many languages.

Inspiring and Humbling

This book had my chin on the floor from the second page. Andrew is inspiring beyond belief. His life has been colorful to say the least and i was totally moved by the philosophical attitude he has responded to it with. We can all draw learnings from this book and learn to handle life's unplanned twists and turns in a positive way. Thank you Andrew!

A book that'll make you belly laugh!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the "Me Myth", it's about time somebody focused on the fact that the world doesn't in fact revolve around YOU. It gives you a new perspective to address any issues you might be faced with in your life. Personally, the best bit about this book for me was that it made me laugh the whole way through. It really was a pleasure to read, unlike some self-help books that are fairly heavy and intense this one is fun and inspiring. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to enrich their life and make it that bit more rewarding.

This is how business books should be written.

This book is pretty much what I imagine getting in a kitchen with Gordon Ramsay would be like. It's non stop - a barrage of things you just didn't know, things you thought you did know but were completely wrong about, and things described in ways you've just never considered before. But at the end of it all, you're stuffed full of awesome, and have learnt a whole swag of new words.

This isn't a business book for those that like the standard format. Rather than "doing a Gladwell" and introducing one core premise and then spending 14 chapters telling me slightly different stories to demonstrate that premise, Steve Sammartino makes his point and moves on. This book could have been ten separate books - it's that thick with ideas. Sammartino's talent in storytelling and speaking shines through - every point illustrated clearly and succinctly.

If you want pithy catchphrases to throw out at your next board meeting, skip this book.
If you want to find the next two-by-two matrix to demonstrate to your boss why your business is completely screwed and you don't really know what to do about it, skip this book.
If you want to get learned on the hundred small things that are combining together to change business, culture, and the world - don't skip this book.

a whip-smart guide on how to think about the world of tomorrow

Straight up, I think this book is the best guide you'll find anywhere right now to the big, big changes happening in business and society as a result of technology. It delivers that rare thing - a 'business' book that reads like anything but. My problem with these is that they usually have one good idea, and then hammer you on the head with it for 300 pages. That's understandable since they're trying to justify their author's fee. But it makes them pretty boring.

This book is the exact opposite, it delivers a dazzling array of ideas and the best pleasures of reading, the pleasures that have you lose your hours while curled up in a comfy couch, that have you sneaking looks and reading when you should be doing other things. Not sure how he's managed to do this (the digital revolution is a big and complicated subject) but Steve Sammartino somehow wraps it all up in a way that's fresh, intelligent and entertaining.

You doubt me. Please do not. The book is made up of a series of small vignettes, each suffused with keen insight, as well as a generous and humane heart. The result explodes across the pages, and remains with you long after you've finished. It's not a manual for how to survive the digital age, but a thriving, whip-smart primer for how to think about it properly. And that's worth every cent.

He brings together old and new business concepts to make you see things from a different perspective; stimulating your synapses to re-think your business strategy, business plan and how you operate your day to day business. About the Author
Dr Lesley Braun is a registered pharmacist and naturopath. She holds a PhD from RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia, in which she investigated the integration of complementary medicine into hospitals in Victoria. Dr Braun is an Adjunct associate Professor of Integrative Medicine at the National Institute of Complementary Medicine at the University of Western Sydney in Australia. NICM provides leadership and support for strategically directed research into complementary medicine and translation of evidence into clinical practice and relevant policy to benefit the health of all Australians.
Dr Braun serves on the Australian Therapeutic Goods Advisory Council which oversees the implementation of TGA reforms and provides general strategic guidance to the TGA, advice on relationships and communication with stakeholders. She is also on the executive for the Complementary and Integrative Therapies interest group of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia and an advisory board member to the Australasian Integrative Medicine Association. As of 2014, she is also the Director of Blackmore’s Institute, the academic and professional arm of Blackmores, which entails engaging with a broad range of academics, government and industry bodies and overseeing a comprehensive academic and research program.
Since 1996 she has authored numerous chapters for books and more than 100 articles, and since 2000 has written regular columns for the Australian Journal of Pharmacy and the Journal of Complementary Medicine. She lectures to medical students at Monash University and to chiropractic students at RMIT University, and is regularly invited to present at national and international conferences about evidence-based complementary medicine, drug interactions, complementary medicine safety and her own clinical research.
Her role as the main author of Herbs and Natural Supplements - An Evidence-based Guide represents a continuation of a life-long goal to integrate evidence-based complementary medicine into standard practice and improve patient outcomes safely and effectively.

Professor Marc Cohen is one of Australia’s pioneers of integrative and holistic medicine who has made significant impacts on education, research, clinical practice and policy. He is a medical doctor and Professor of Health Sciences at RMIT University where he leads postgraduate Wellness Programs and supervises research into wellness and holistic health including research on yoga, meditation, nutrition, herbal medicine, acupuncture, lifestyle and the health impact of pesticides, organic food and detoxification. Prof Cohen sits on the Board of a number of national and international associations including the Australasian Integrative Medicine Association, the Global Spa and Wellness Summit and the Australasian Spa and Wellness Association, as well as serving on the Editorial Board of several international peer-reviewed journals. Prof Cohen has published more than 80 peer-reviewed journal articles and co-edited the text ‘Understanding the Global Spa Industry’, along with more than 10 other books on holistic approaches to health. He is a frequent speaker at many national and international conferences where he delivers inspiring, informative and uplifting presentations. His impact on the field has been recognised by four consecutive RMIT Media Star Awards as well as the inaugural Award for Leadership and Collaboration from the National Institute of Complementary Medicine.

Good scientific information, though sometimes confusing

I'm a pharmacy student so understanding medical terminology comes a bit easier to me. This book is great if you can understand it because a huge majority of the book (the descriptions of the herbs in particular) is written in a clinical style. It very much resembles a monograph in an internet database or a package insert to a medication.
Having said that, this book is very detailed. It has a good amount of information regarding mechanisms of actions, clinical uses and adverse effects. I would recommend this book if you are very familiar with the workings of the human body or at least, have some basic pharmacology knowledge. Otherwise, this book can seem a bit confusing.
A good reference to have in any clinical library.
Plus, the added option of downloading the book on a computer, ipad, or netbook is an added bonus. A good option if you don't want to carry around the book all day.

I am using this as part of my bachelor in natural medicine. Its a great reference for uses of food, supplements and herbs for many ailments.

It is missing a good few herbs but it would be hard to fit them all in one book.

I would recommend this for anyone interested or studying natural medicine.

Life in a simple English village isn't as simple as it appears

This was a delightful reading experience, mainly due to the wonderful character of Jodie as she adapts to her new life. Once a hard working executive, now made "redundant" (you have the love the English turn of phrase) yet still able to do well as a computer consultant, she chucks it all for love. A few months in, she is still adapting to married life with a widowed clergyman, while living with the memory of the first wife (and her house and her kitchen and even her catch-all drawer of stuff), and trying to walk the fine line of being a pastor's wife. All are new and strange to Jodie. Add to this a mystery discovered on her daily run and subsequent attacks on her and others in her village.

Suddenly this bucolic look at English village life becomes an intense look at modern crimes. Eventually it all comes down to money, the driving force behind most people's facades. Those who look the guiltiest are revealed to be the most dependable and vice versus. Neither a simple village nor a church community are ever free from the sin of doing whatever is necessary to succeed, however that term is personally defined.

In the end, the culprit(s) aren't as surprising as the murder victim. That was a shocker and, alas, I cannot say more without ruining the mystery. Most of all this is a cracking story and I look forward to more adventures with Jodie as she continues to meld her old and new life, wherever she and Theo end up.

Death in Elysium

This is the first book in a new crime series featuring Jodie Welsh. Jodie is an interesting main character – a high powered businesswoman who was made redundant and now finds herself married to Theo, a widowed rector in a rural parish. Trying to bake cupcakes for the WI or take notes for the parish meetings are not exactly the height of excitement and, although Jodie loves Theo dearly, she slightly resents that she cannot use her money to improve their rather uncomfortable house in Lesser Hogben and feels she is often compared to Theo’s first wife, Merry. However, Jodie tries her best to help Theo and be involved in the community. One day, whilst out running, she comes across a large building site deep in the countryside and nobody seems to know what is happening there, or who is responsible. Her questions about the site will soon put both her and young Burble, an unemployed youth she gives odd jobs to, in danger.

Although this is described as a ‘cosy’ mystery, this is not just a beautiful, picturesque rural setting. Jodie is constantly being sniped at for her belief in helping the young people in the village find work. Along with Burble, she also becomes involved with a young man called Mazza and his sister Sian. This is real village life; lack of work, often poor housing, crime and intolerance are all explored. Jodie tries to make suggestions to keep the few village amenities going, but many locals feel she is either interfering or that the young people she is trying to help are involved in minor thefts around the village. As well as Jodie, the other characters work well. Jodie’s cousin Dave is a former DCI and the local villagers help flesh out the storyline. What begins as a gentle, typical mystery story, gradually becomes a fast moving plot with an exciting ending. I look forward to reading on in this series and thought it an excellent start. Lastly, I received a copy of this book from the publishers, via NetGalley, for review.

This new edition of Understanding Housing Defects has been extensively revised and includes new and revised graphics, many more photographs, and an extended text. The book is a natural companion to The Construction of Houses (first published in 1990 and now in its 3rd revision). Understanding Housing Defects provides a concise, coherent and comprehensive introduction to the causes, investigation and diagnosis of housing defects.

It is aimed at all those students and practitioners who require a broad understanding of housing defects as part of a wider sphere of academic or professional activity.

The book has three specific objectives, to explain why, and how, defects occur. To enable the reader to recognise and identify building defects and to provide, where appropriate, guidance on their correct diagnosis.

The authors have worked in both public and private sectors and have, between them over 75 years' experience in dealing with housing and general building defects. Currently, they are all lecturers at the University of the West England, where they teach on a variety of undergraduate and post-graduate courses. They are also actively involved in carrying out research and consultancy for a number of property owning organisations throughout the UK.
